The Local Area
Devenish Pitt is situated in East Devon, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) 4 miles from the market town of Honiton and very close to several beaches along the Jurassic Coastline. Our nearest beach is also only 4 miles away. Local sandy, shingle and pebbly beaches include Branscombe, Sidmouth, Beer and Seaton. Dorset's Lyme Regis and Charmouth are also within easy reach both great for fossil hunting and just around the coast from there is West Bay, famous for the making of the popular TV series of Broadchurch!

Honiton - 6 minutes: The market town of Honiton is famous for its traditional lace dating back to the 1600s, used to make Queen Victoria’s wedding dress; numerous antique shops; 13th century chapel of Allhallows a grade II listed building with museum showing samples of lacemaking; swimming pool and sports centre; Beehive Community and Arts Centre; Honiton Golf course; Tesco, Lidl, Aldi supermarkets.
Exeter - 45 minutes: With its beautiful Cathedral and modern Princesshay shopping centre.
Coastal Towns & Villages Along the Jurassic Coast:
Branscombe - 10 minutes: A pretty seaside village with beach café, scenic walks, boat trips and mackerel fishing.
Seaton - 15 minutes: Seaton became a popular seaside resort in Victorian times and retains much character; small shops, large Tesco, library, laundrette, golf, tennis, bowls, open-top tramway, fishing and sailing. The harbour of Axmouth - lying adjacent to Seaton, offers mooring facilities for berths & small fishing boats.
Beer - 13 minutes: A pretty fishing village with Pecorama Model Railway and pleasure gardens, and Quarry Caves where Beer stone has been quarried here since Roman times.
Sidmouth - 20 minutes: Beach resort with pebbly town beach; sandy Jacob’s ladder beach and stunning gardens at Jacobs’s ladder; famous Donkey Sanctuary; swimming pool and sports centre.
Lyme Regis and Dorset - 25 minutes: Fossils, famous for its Cobb and where the "French Lieutenant’s Woman" was filmed.
West Bay - 40 minutes: A little further up the Dorset coast now famous for "Broadchurch".

Seaton Tramway - This historic open-top tramway runs from Seaton to Colyford & Colyton aside the River Axe Estuary where a great variety of bird life congregates.
